About these terms
Thanks for using AstroBrain! These terms are a simple agreement between you and me, Hussam Ahmed, the person who runs AstroBrain at astrobrain.net. By using AstroBrain you agree to them.
How your data is handled is explained in the Privacy Policy.
What AstroBrain is
AstroBrain is a free, independent astrophotography planning tool, built and maintained by one person. It is under active development: features can change, move or be removed, and it can have bugs. There is no paid tier and nothing to buy.
Who can use it
Anyone can plan without an account. To create an account you must be at least 16 years old.
Your account
- Keep your Google account or email sign-in secure.
- An account is for one person — do not share it.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Let me know if you think someone else has used it.
Your content
What you enter — sites, rigs, plans, notes and logbook entries — is yours. AstroBrain only stores and shows it to run the app for you (and, if you publish a plan, to show it to people with the link). Delete it or your account and that ends.
Only enter content you have the right to use, and do not put passwords or other secrets into it.
Acceptable use
Please do not:
- try to access other people’s accounts or data;
- try to get around security or usage limits;
- overload the service with automated requests, or scrape or copy its catalogue or features in bulk;
- use AstroBrain for anything illegal, or to publish unlawful or harmful content;
- reverse engineer the service, except where the law allows it.
Planning results are guidance
AstroBrain calculates positions, visibility, darkness, exposure suggestions and scores, and shows weather forecasts from other providers. These are estimates: forecasts can be wrong, catalogue data can contain errors, and results depend on what you enter.
Always check conditions yourself and use your own judgement — especially for safety, like travelling to a dark site at night, or protecting your equipment.
Availability and your data
I work hard to keep AstroBrain running and your data safe, but as a free project run by one person, I can’t promise it will always be available. Data kept only in your browser disappears if you clear it, so for anything important, it’s a good habit to export a copy from Settings now and then.
I may change, pause or stop AstroBrain or any feature. If I decide to shut AstroBrain down, I will try to give reasonable notice so you can export your data first.
Donations
You can support AstroBrain with a voluntary donation through PayPal. A donation is a gift, not a purchase: it unlocks nothing and does not oblige me to provide AstroBrain or keep it available. PayPal handles the payment under its own terms. If you donated by mistake, email me.
Other services
AstroBrain uses a few trusted services — for example a secure login service and Google for sign-in, Open-Meteo for weather and CDS for sky maps. Those services have their own terms.
No warranty
AstroBrain is offered free and “as is”. As far as the law allows, I can’t guarantee it will always be accurate, available or error-free.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, I am not responsible for indirect losses, lost data, lost imaging time, or equipment damage that come from using AstroBrain.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited.
Ending
You can stop using AstroBrain at any time and delete your account in Settings. If an account breaks these terms or puts others at risk, I may suspend or close it, and where reasonable I will explain why.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the competent courts of Egypt decide any dispute. If you use AstroBrain as a consumer, you keep any protections that the law of the country where you live gives you and that cannot be waived by agreement.
If something goes wrong, please just email me — most things can be sorted out quickly.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms as AstroBrain changes. The date at the top shows the current version. If you keep using AstroBrain after a change, the updated terms apply.
